Mission Statement

The  McComb Railroad Museum was opened in 2003 after three years of hard work by volunteers to prepare the depot and the display cases and memorabilia that were initially available to the public. The purpose of the Museum, a 501 (c) 3 charitable organization, is to preserve the railroad history of Southwest Mississippi through educational means and to promote economic development through heritage tourism.  The goal is to restore the Depot building, protect existing exhibits, acquire additional exhibits and artifacts, properly catalog and display all collections and maintain a schedule to provide public access.

Governance
The Railroad Museum is governed by a board of volunteer directors elected to serve for staggered, three-year terms. These volunteers serve the organization in various capacities, fulfilling different responsibilities within the organization, from laying bricks to giving guided tours of the museum. In addition to Board members the Museum benefits from a wide range of volunteer activity throughout the community.

The museum’s audience consists of school groups, Amtrak travelers, tourists and local citizens interested in the area’s rich railroad history.
